In 2003 Gene and his wife Suzanne answered the call to start a Cowboy Church in the Central Florida area. Gene founded Mill Town Cowboy Church in Kissimmee, Florida to minister to cowboys and cowgirls at various events around the Central Florida area and equestrian events around Florida.
Then in the summer of 2007 Gene moved his family to Asheville, North Carolina to start Land of the Sky Cowboy Church in Buncombe and Madison County. Land of the Sky continues to grow into the cowboy culture here in Western North Carolina. (just for the record I like the fact that I’m a pastor of a cowboy church and we live in Western North Carolina, the irony)
Reaching those who have not been to church or who only attend from time to time are the people this ministry is going to reach.
“We’re not the typical church,” says Gene, “Some of our services are held at rodeo arenas, barns and equestrian centers. We want people to feel like they’re coming over to sit with good friends, at the same time getting practical applications of the Bible that are relevant to their everyday lives.”
Land of the Sky also assists other Cowboy ministries with various events by providing technical support and unique services to enhance their outreach for the community. Our goal is to go where we are needed and can serve the community with a message that is relevant to the residents.
The cowboy is only as good as his word. He carried everything he owned on his saddle and endured many hardships as well as enjoying the freedom of the open range before him. The “Cowboy Way” is as much a way of life as it is a state of mind. We are looking for the cowboy or cowgirl that is looking for something more than church... a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Whether you spend your weekends traveling to rodeos or cowboy events we want to invite you to join us for a down to earth worship time through music, Biblical teachings and genuine fellowship.
Come on over and sit a while.
